“See you, Jay!”
He didn’t hear the words - the nice words
coming from the nice kids who would never, in
a million years, dream of calling him anything
but Jay. Abby had to run to catch up with him.
“Wait!” Abby called. “Look, Miss Field heard
Tom. She’s in the cloakroom now telling him
off. He’ll be in big trouble. That’s what he’s
like. Flippin heck, Jay! Ignore him.”
By the time Jay was home, his heart was
pounding overtime and the anger inside him
was boiling over.
“I never wanted to go to your school,” he
shouted at Abby. “I knew it would be like
that.”
He reached up to bang on his front door, but
it opened just as he got there. Dad was
standing there – a puzzled look on his face.
