Someone gave him a spare rucksack. It

contained a blanket, some food rations, a

water bottle and a blitzer for blitzing

Groundlings. The Pioneers watched him get

the rucksack onto his back and tuck the

weapon into his belt. He walked over to the

others, but they made no comment about the

way he walked.

“They might all walk like that in his group!”

he heard Rosie whisper to Flick.

“I don’t know how you’ve managed without

shoes,” Binny commented.

Jay looked down at his feet. Of course, he

had kicked his shoes off in his bedroom. He’d

forgotten about that.

“Um….,” he said, thinking quickly. What

would sound believable? “I took them off and

left them somewhere.”
