he wanted to find a way out of the game and

get back to the real world. But there didn’t

seem to be any way out just now. Ella was

right - it would be safer for him to stay with

them. He didn’t want to get captured by the

Groundlings. Who knows how long he’d be

stuck in the game if that happened. He had got

there somehow. There was bound to be a way

back. Jay felt sure he would find it. He did not

want to stay forever. He was more like a

visitor, not someone who belonged. Besides,

he was curious to know more about the game

from the inside.

It wasn’t long before Jay had walked further

than he had walked in his life. The Pioneers

were experienced travellers, but Jay wondered

how long he would be able to go before his
