could he have thought up that fast?

Ella was reaching into one of the rucksacks

she carried. She held something out to Jay. It

was a pair of trainers.

“They’ll probably fit you,” she said.

Jay was surprised. He’d been playing The

Journey for months. He had often wondered

what else Ella had in her rucksack. He would

never have guessed shoes! He took them.

“Thanks!”

“Now everyone, listen!” Ella raised her

voice. “We’ve delayed long enough. We need

to keep going if we’re to find somewhere to

shelter for the night.”

Everyone began walking. Jay began

following Rosie and Flick skipped alongside

him. What other option did he have? Of course
