Everyone was laughing. The end of one arm had landed on her
nose.
“Alfie! Turn this thing off at once!”
Year Five were in fits of laughter.
“Wow!” cried Robert Belch. “Look at that! You’ve turned it into an
Automatic Nose Picker, Alfie!”
When he got home from school that day Alfie could still hear the
sound of everyone laughing.
Grandad was in the workshop. His teeth had been rescued from
the toilet. They had been specially cleaned and Grandad was glad to
have them back. Alfie told him what had happened at school.
“Sorry, Grandad,” he said. “Have I broken it?”
Grandad chuckled.
“No!” he said. “I’ll soon sort it out. I wish I could have seen the
Automatic Nose Picker!”
“Hmm!” said Alfie.
He went up to his room and flopped down on his bed. Then he
did what he always did when he felt cross or upset. He got out his
sketch book and started doodling. He did quite a good picture of
Miss May wearing an Automatic Nose Picker. It made him smile.
