“Ohh!” said everyone.
“His teeth fell in the toilet this morning,” she went on.
“Ha! Ha!” said everyone.
But Miss May didn’t laugh.
“But,” she added. “Alfie has brought something in to show us
instead.”
“Ooo!” said everyone.
Alfie carefully took the Automatic Back Massager out of the
cardboard box. He had to place it on his head. He carefully strapped
it in place. Then he pressed the ON switch on one side of it.
Everyone cheered and laughed as the arm at the back reached down
and moved backwards and forwards massaging Alfie’s back.
“It’s a wonderful invention!” said Miss May. “It’s very clever. Can
you show us how it works, Alfie?”
Alfie swallowed. This was the bit he had been dreading.
Alfie removed the gadget from his head and took some of it apart.
He tried to remember what Grandad had said about how the different
bits were connected and what made them move. He showed them
where the battery was.
