Ben leaped forwards on to the Escape Pad. With one
huge jump he landed right on the middle of it.
There was a blast of sound, a whirring noise, a thud.
Ben shut his eyes. Then everything went quiet.
Ben kept his eyes shut for a few more minutes. He
was too scared to open them. What if it hadn’t worked?
What if he was still trapped in the computer game? One of
the monsters might be standing behind him right now!
Suddenly Ben realised that he was sitting on
something soft. It felt like carpet. He could hear voices. It
sounded like Uncle Jim and his parents. Ben opened his
eyes.
“I’m back!” he shouted. “I’m back! I’m back!”
“What are you doing, Ben? We’ve been looking all
over for you? You weren’t in here just now?”
It was Uncle Jim. Ben scrambled to his feet. He put his
hands up to his face. What would Uncle Jim say when he
saw the yellow stuff? He was surprised to find that his face
