The Alien
WHEN Mum told us The Alien was coming to stay at the
weekend we didn’t say a thing.
It was breakfast on a Monday morning. There was a
whole week of school ahead. Josh and I were sitting at the
kitchen table trying not to think about this. It was not a
good time to come out with bad news. Josh froze, a piece
of toast clenched between his teeth. Mum was standing in
front of the toaster spreading butter on burnt toast.
I just sighed.
“I know how much you twins enjoy having Arabella to
stay,” Mum was twitting on. “Ughh! This toaster is even
worse this morning.”
She could say that again. Mum burnt the toast most
mornings. She always blamed the toaster. Dad always took
one look at it and said: “Mmm, very nice. Can’t stop
though. Must get to work! Bye twins!”
