at once, but realised they were up to

something. Lewis put a finger to his lips, as

though to say “shh!”

Lewis lay Jay down on the ground and

began to unwind the cords.

“Here!” he said. “I think there’s something

wrong with him.”

Jay lay perfectly still with his eyes shut.

“What d’yer mean?” growled one of the

Groundlings.

“Well,” Lewis pretended. “Come in here you

two and have a look.”

Lewis had completely loosened the cords

now. Binny and Ella were creeping towards

the cage. Binny was reaching out ready to

grab Flick. The two Groundlings stomped into

the cage and peered down at Jay.
