late!” Jay said awkwardly. Sometimes he

started to forget that he wasn’t really a

Pioneer like the others. Sometimes he forgot

that the Pioneers believed he had been the

only one of his group to survive being

captured.

Binny peered through the darkness at the

cage.

“There’s someone behind the bars!” he

whispered frantically. “It’s Flick!”

It was true. The four of them could just

about make out Flick’s small and frightened

face gazing out of the cage which the

Groundlings were supposed to be guarding.

She seemed to be the only prisoner.
