crawl back to the ladder as fast as she could. But she was

just too scared to move

Two shiny eyes appeared around the side of the box.

A head followed it. It was huge. Its mouth was open and

Kim could see sharp teeth. It was furry - a huge white furry

body with a long tail. Suddenly, whatever it was leapt

towards her.

In fright Kim fell backwards with a thump. The fat

furry thing swept past. Its teeth snapped together. Kim

felt it brush past her face. She felt its breath. It was

terrifying. Kim had never seen such an enormous mouse.

She curled up in fright as it flew past, but she kept her

eyes fixed on the strange white body and long grey tail.

Then, just as Kim was thinking that nothing worse

could happen, it did. She was expecting the giant mouse

to leap on to one of the beams and scuttle off to a mouse

hole. But it didn’t. Before it even reached the beam it did

something very odd. Kim saw it with her own eyes. It

started to go blurry. Then it started to fade. Then
